Freedom to Marry- Northampton County Court House Action in Easton, and Legal Marriage Ceremonies in Phillipsburg, NJ
Pro Marriage Equality supporters will rally with signs at the Northampton County Court House, while same-sex couples try to apply for marriage licenses inside. When they are denied the right to marry, couples who have applied for New Jersey marriage licenses will cross the river to Phillipsburg, NJ and get legally married. A reception will follow at the RE:find Gallery in Easton.
Rally For Marriage Equality
- Friday Feb. 7th, beginning at 12:00 noon, rally and marriage participants will park and gather in the parking lot in Phillipsburg, New Jersey just across the Free Bridge and half a block north.
- Promptly at 12:30pm a motor coach will take the couples who are going to try to apply for licenses, to the Northampton County Court House at 669 Washington St., Easton.
- Those participating in the rally may also simply meet at the rally site at Northampton County Court House at 669 Washington St., Easton. Participants are encouraged to bring pro-marriage equality signs on cardboard (no sticks) and support the speakers and couples applying for licenses.
Legal Same-sex Marriage Ceremonies
After the Northampton County Court House action, at about 1:15pm, rally participants and couples will return to the parking lot in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. If the weather is mild enough, the legal marriage ceremonies officiated by Rev. Elizabeth Goudy, will take place in the small park along the river, across from the parking lot. If it is bad weather, the ceremonies will take place in the large motor coach, that will have room for observers.
After the legal ceremonies, everyone is invited to congratulate the legally married couples at a reception that will begin at about 2:15pm in the RE:find gallery at 437 Northampton St. back in Easton. Light refreshments will be provided by Sweet Girlz Bakery, and background music will be provided by the DJs of Used Grooves.
